Privacy Policy for Quick Chrome Notes
Last updated: September 5, 2026
Introduction
The Quick Chrome Notes Chrome extension ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains how we handle your data when you use our note-taking service.
Data Collection and Storage
Our extension collects and stores:
- Note content (stored locally on your device by default)
- Extension preferences and settings (theme, active page, page names)
- Your extension rating (if provided)
- A locally-generated anonymous client identifier used for aggregate analytics
By default, all note content is stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure storage APIs and is not transmitted to our servers.
Local Storage (Default)
- All notes are stored in your browser's local storage on this device
- No note content is transmitted to our servers
- Your notes remain private and under your control at all times
- Notes are automatically saved every few seconds
- You can clear your notes at any time through the extension interface
Optional Cloud Sync (Pro)
If you upgrade to Pro and enable sync, your notes are stored via Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This means:
- Notes are encrypted in transit and synchronized across devices where you are signed in to the same Google account with Chrome sync enabled
- Storage and transmission are handled entirely by Google's Chrome sync infrastructure — we (the extension author) never see, store, or process your note content
- Google's use of this synced data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Chrome sync settings, which you control at myaccount.google.com
- Chrome sync has quota limits (approximately 100 KB total, 8 KB per item). If you exceed them, sync automatically pauses and your notes remain safe locally
- You can revert to local-only storage at any time — no note content is retained on our servers regardless of your choice
Payment Processing (Pro)
If you purchase a Pro plan (monthly subscription or one-time Lifetime), payment is handled by our payment processors:
- ExtensionPay — the platform we use to sell Pro upgrades. See ExtensionPay's Privacy Policy
- Stripe — our underlying payment provider. See Stripe's Privacy Policy
To complete a purchase you will provide an email address and payment information (card details, billing address as required by Stripe). We (the extension author) do not receive, store, or have access to your full payment details. We receive only your Pro status and, for subscription management, your email address.
Your Pro status is verified through ExtensionPay's servers when the extension checks whether Pro features should be unlocked. This check exchanges only anonymous identifiers and your Pro status — no note content is involved.
Permissions
Our extension requires:
- storage: For saving your notes and preferences locally, and — for Pro users — via Chrome's built-in sync
- alarms: For a lightweight background timer that maintains the session, checks Pro status, and enables sync
- Host permission for extensionpay.com: To communicate with ExtensionPay's payment servers for Pro purchase and status verification
We request minimal permissions to ensure your privacy and security.
Analytics
We collect limited anonymous usage data including:
- Installation/uninstallation events
- Error reports
- Feature usage statistics
This data is aggregated and non-identifiable. No actual note content is included in analytics.
Third-Party Services
We use:
- Chrome Web Store — for distribution
- Google Analytics 4 — for anonymous, aggregate usage statistics (feature clicks, install/update events, error rates). No note content is included
- Chrome sync (Google) — only if you are a Pro user and enable cloud sync; handles synchronization of your notes across devices
- ExtensionPay — payment platform for Pro upgrades
- Stripe — underlying payment processor for Pro purchases
Aside from optional Chrome sync (which is initiated by you), no third-party service has access to your note content.
Your Control Over Your Data
You maintain complete control over your data:
- All notes can be edited or deleted by you at any time
- Uninstalling the extension will remove all locally stored notes on this device
- Clearing browser data for the extension will remove locally stored notes
- Pro users can remove synced notes by disabling Chrome sync in browser settings or wiping data via Google account controls
- No backups of your notes exist on our servers
Updates to Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here with an updated date.
